They don’t teach options trading so the kids don’t learn any strategy before the games. At least then they’ve learned how stock exchanges got started.
I just think the way they’re doing it doesn’t teach any fundamentals and portrays investing as if it were horse racing. I think if they did the mock trading floor, they would actually be teaching something and making a lot more students interested.
The basics of trading is matching buyers with sellers. Primary school boys trading baseball cards in the schoolyard are already operating an exchange. I don’t think it takes College level kids to organize a mock exchange where they each have a list of orders to fill and it’s up to them to find others with matching orders in a gymnasium.

They can organize some kids to be clerks to register and log the trades and post the prices on a board or LED message board running a ticker tape type display, other kids could place orders, others can act as brokerage houses trying to match the trades on their own books first before running out orders to the floor etc.

Just having them buy and sell a mock portfolio only shows them that the market exists, little else. I think the current games leads them to the false premise that you just pick an Apple or Google early on.

These games are usually done in high school economics classes. We did it 30 years ago on paper. The idea isnt to teach students how to be traders. The idea in high school is to teach students the very basic concepts of how the market works. They do not have the prerequisites to do what you are suggesting. That’s college level.

im sorry, i just have to say from the kindness of a perfect stranger, save your money. i understand what you are feeling. you want a teacher/student approach to the game to give you the tools to become a successful poker player.
I have tried to follow some by-the-book strategies in the past. but you know what? nothing gives you more confidence or a better learning process than to develop your own style that works. i have been playing poker for years and im still adjusting my style.
by all means go and sit at a book store and check out some poker books over a cup of coffee. they do give good tips and ideas. but put it back on the shelf. they only give you something to try but you will always make it your own, rendering the book useless. there are no guarantees in poker. there is you and the opponent.
my best most neutral advice to you:
*patience
*ability to take a bad beat and shrug it off/ there is no room for emotions, move on or take a break.
*mentally outlasting the opponent- in other words, if you are in a tournament for money. i dont care if it’s for 6 dollars or 1000 dollars. i will play as long as it takes to win. many will go on tilt simply because they are tired of playing for so long. dont be that guy. be the one that breaks his opponent down, if not by the cards, then by mental focus. pay attention to the players actions around you. decide who is a good player and who is weak remembering that there is never a player that you dont need to worry about, because that could be the one that takes you out.
im sorry this is such a long answer but i love talking poker lol. it is so psychological to me. what i have told you has earned me not only money but more importantly, respect, which is a powerful weapon. when other players are wary of you and are telling others to watch out for you, then you have what it takes to earn a lot of money. you see? and i didnt even tell you how to play certain hands or tell you what to do with your money. because its all up to you. and i cant charge you money lol. i only want you to see that its YOU who will be your best teacher. now go get those chips!
